don't be a dragon, join the herd: it's Christmas time

It's Christmas musak season, so time once again to point to my insight into consumerist capitulation: the tale of Darcy the Dragon.

Don't even get me started on Alvin and the Chipmunks.

warning! xmas music! warning!

Hartman's has activated their yearly barrage of Christmas music. It's not just that I mind the season-pushing, it's that the music is so unbearably insipid that my normal leisurely 15-minute stroll through the aisles turns into a 5-minute sprint so that I can get out of there before I go mad.

brain jingling - The Dream

I have a bad habit of obsessing over catchy commercial music, exactly as they intend me to.

Anyway if you want the music in the latest joe.ca commercial it's pretty easy, since they provide it on their site as an MP3 download

http://joe.ca/Video_en.aspx

You'll need to run Flash in order to get the download button.

It's by Rhonda Stakich. Uncredited on both the site and in the MP3 metadata, I don't know why. It was written specifically for the commercial.

All of this thanks to Google search, the new sites specifically for finding music in commercials, and the wise crowd that posts answers to these questions.

nonly in Canada, you say?

Amazon has an exciting new DRM-free MP3 store.

As required by our Digital Content providers, Digital Content will, unless otherwise designated, be available only to customers located in the United States.

No music for you, Canadians.

I fvcking hate these stupid license agreements.
