Sielom Thai is yummy
Had yummy supper from Sielom Thai on Bank and Somerset (right at the bus stop for the #2). Please go there and eat lots of their yummy food so that they stay in business. Very reasonable take-out prices. Did I mention delicious? They take cash only. Also it's too late for you to go this weekend; they're open until 10 PM on Saturday and then closed on Sunday. PS I'm blogging this on my LCD TV, with the PowerBook in lid-closed, writing with my wireless keyboard. Steve Jobs' ridiculous giant candy icons look quite nice on the screen. I could get used to driving the laptop from the couch.
updated my LibraryThing
Added 269 books from my physical home library to Delicious Library on the Mac, of those, 243 ISBNs uploaded to my LibraryThing catalogue, which now stands at 257 books http://www.librarything.com/catalog/rakerman The ISBNs are not always the right ones, but the titles are correct. I'm going to make a fancy book reading page at some point. Monday, March 20, 2006
powerbook lid-closed operation
The PowerBook running with lid closed is nice: my laptop connected to my 20" LCD and USB keyboard + mouse turns into a nice desktop, 1600x1200. Took me a few tries to figure out the magic: I have to have the USB unplugged, then plug it in after I close the case to put the laptop to sleep. I was trying to figure out if it was louder with screen open or lid closed, it isn't clear. It's not THAT loud, but I still might move it a bit farther away (it sits on the table right in front of me now). Sunday, March 19, 2006
and on that happy day, he left the Classical world
The only Mac OS 9 (Classic) app I was still running was Outlook Express. I love Outlook Express. So much that I have 24,000 emails in there, apparently. I have tried other email apps, but none of them matched the complex functionality I wanted, with the simplicity of OE's interface. I have posted before about alternative apps, but I never found anything. Anyway, so finally today after many years I got around to installing my (legal academic bought-at-Dal) copy of Microsoft Office Mac X. So it turns out that Entourage X is the exact successor to OE. Same interface, same everything, plus it happily sucked in all the data from my OE 5 identity. My rules are running, my multiple email accounts work, it's downloading emails correctly. Today is a good day. In theory I could now go forward into the glorious Intel Mac world at some point in the future. HOME - |
