We Must Implement WIPO: hypocrisy much?

I haven't blogged much about politics, but this one really bugs me.
Government loves to take these hypocritical positions, that go something like

"For Reason A, we MUST do this" (thing that we want to do)
"For Reason A, we MUST NOT do this" (thing that we don't want to do)

Um, sorry, you can't use the same justification for opposite positions.
Like say...

Hon. Jim Prentice (Minister of Industry, CPC):

Mr. Speaker, I note impatience in my hon. friend's voice in his question.

The hon. member knows full well that the copyright bill has been under discussion in this country for a number of years. He also knows full well that our country has signed international treaties going back 10 years and that there are obligations pursuant to those treaties.

Yeah, we certainly wouldn't want to ignore obligations on international treaties that we signed years ago.

Except for Kyoto. Yeah, we can ignore that one completely.

Hypocrisy much?
