Saw Russian Ark at the Mayfair. It was good. Unfortunately, since I don't know a lot of detail about Russian history, I mainly appreciated it on the level of a brief visit to the Hermitage, featuring an elaborately costumed cast of thousands. On this level it was still quite enjoyable as the Hermitage is amazing, and the opulent outfits and events were a reminder of a time of wealth and privilege that has now passed. The movie is also a bit of a meditation on Russia's relationship with Europe, and to what extent the Russians are Europeans. HOME - |
