We must always cherish and exercise our democratic rights. Just a final reminder that this is the last day to contribute to the Canadian Copyright Review Process. To quote directly from their website: Canadians are invited to provide their comments by September 15, 2001.

I had thought about writing at some length about democratic rights here, but you're all smart people. Just remember that there is always a trade-off. We can have a highly secure society, but to do so would require unprecedented restrictions on privacy and freedom, as well as much higher police presence everywhere. My personal opinion is that in the heat of the moment, we should not surrender hard-earned rights and freedoms. If we combat terrorism by using modern technology's capability for unprecedented levels of individual surveillance and tracking, we may have given up much more than we gain in security. posted by Richard at 07:37 / permalink (post) | permalink (numeric)
