Ikea LED lights
You can buy a unit that comes with four strips of white LEDs, $50. Plugs into regular wall power. They are quite bright, I think you'd want to reflect them off a wall or ceiling or put some sort of diffusion shade on them rather than using them as direct lighting. You can have them as four separate strips, or plug the strips together to make a long bar of four (you can work out the other permutations). They are in the Dioder series, don't confuse them with the other ones in this line, which include battery-powered ones and multicoloured ones. http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/50119407 In case you're wondering, the multicolour strips (tunable colours) cost $30 more.
